Circle’s Discovery API enables AI agents to find and pay for USDC-compatible services across chains, simplifying automated transactions.
Circle has unveiled its Discovery API, a tool designed to simplify how AI agents and developers identify and pay for services using USDC, its stablecoin pegged to the U.S. dollar. The API, which requires no authentication or Circle account, consolidates a wide range of x402-compatible services into a single public endpoint. These services span categories like financial analysis, web search, media generation, and infrastructure, giving agents seamless access to USDC payment-enabled resources across multiple blockchains.
The launch is part of Circle’s broader push into AI-driven automation and payment infrastructure, dubbed the “agentic economy.” In a May 2026 announcement, Circle outlined plans to integrate programmable wallets, service discovery tools, and machine-readable payment controls to facilitate automated transactions. The Discovery API represents a concrete step in that direction, enabling autonomous agents to programmatically locate, price, and interact with services without manual intervention.
How It Works
The Discovery API provides structured JSON responses for each listed service, detailing payment terms, supported networks, and usage instructions. For instance, a query might return a financial analysis service that offers crypto price data. The response includes the network identifier, the USDC amount required (in atomic units), and the seller’s wallet address for payment. A sample service might charge 0.008 USDC (well under a cent) for a single request, with transactions handled either via on-chain x402 payments or Circle’s off-chain Gateway Nanopayments system.
Importantly, the API supports filtering by category, network, price, and payment method. Developers can refine queries to find services tailored to specific use cases, such as filtering for financial-analysis tools with a maximum price of $0.01 on a supported blockchain. These capabilities aim to reduce friction in building applications that rely on external services.

USDC, which has a market capitalization of $74 billion as of September 8, 2026, is a cornerstone of Circle’s ecosystem. Designed to maintain a stable $1.00 price, it is widely used in cross-border payments, DeFi protocols, and digital commerce.
